WHAT I PLAN TO READ NEXT:

Just hoping to get through the books I am currently reading.

IN REAL LIFE:

Such a busy week, so much reading and writing to do for school, plus the rest of my life demanding my time. I wish I had better time management skills, I could really use them, but I just muddle along getting as much done as I can when I can.

Because I have been so busy, I haven't had time to reply to comments from last week or to write posts for next week. I am putting together this post quickly between eating breakfast and getting back to work and hopefully, I can find more such slots of time to get posts for next week written. I am just going to play it by ear, schoolwork is the priority and if I have no posts for my blog next week, then so be it.

I hope you all had a wonderful week :-)

Review: The 100

Title: The 100
Series: The Hundred #1
Author: Kass Morgan
Published by: Little, Brown Books on 3rd September 2013
Genre: Post-Apocalyptic Survival Romance
Format: eARC
Source: Publisher
Check it out on Goodreads

*I received a copy of this book free from the publisher via Netgalley for review consideration, this in no way affects my opinion of the book.*

Goodreads Synopsis: No one has set foot on Earth in centuries -- until now.

Ever since a devastating nuclear war, humanity has lived on spaceships far above Earth's radioactive surface. Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents -- considered expendable by society -- are being sent on a dangerous mission: to recolonize the planet. It could be their second chance at life...or it could be a suicide mission.

CLARKE was arrested for treason, though she's haunted by the memory of what she really did. WELLS, the chancellor's son, came to Earth for the girl he loves -- but will she ever forgive him? Reckless BELLAMY fought his way onto the transport pod to protect his sister, the other half of the only pair of siblings in the universe. And GLASS managed to escape back onto the ship, only to find that life there is just as dangerous as she feared it would be on Earth.

Confronted with a savage land and haunted by secrets from their pasts, the hundred must fight to survive. They were never meant to be heroes, but they may be mankind's last hope.

My Thoughts: Humanity has been in living on a space station since a nuclear holocaust thingy that isnt really explained happened, many, many moons ago. On the station every little infraction immediately results in the death penalty, unless you are under 18, well, then it's of to death row to await execution as soon as you turn 18. Resources have been running low for some time now thats why the harsh capital punishment. And so to kill two birds with one stone they send 100 kids on deathrow down to earth - less mouths to feed and lungs to breathe and they get to see if earth is habitable enough to move the entire population down.

The story is told in four alternating points of view, two of the points of view are from kids who were on death row and two that found their way on to the ship to protect someone they love. One of these 'criminals' escape the ship going to Earth thinking she will be better off, but boy is she wrong. The alternate points of view allow us to get a really good look at the new world and the space station from many angles. Morgan handles the different voices well as it is easy to tell the characters apart. There are also flashbacks interspersed throughout, these not only flesh out the characters but also tell us how humanity and the characters got to where they are now.

There is too much emphasis on romance and not enough on word building. I would like to know more about what happened to the Earth and how The Colony came to be and not so much about everybodies crush on each other. I like romance but in this book I would have liked more emphasis on survival.

Despite its flaws I very much liked this book, in fact I read this in one sitting and straight after I finished I read book two, also in one sitting. So if you are looking for a fun, easy read definitely give this go.

Review: Fools Assassin

Title: Fool's Assassin
Series: Fitz and the Fool #1
Author: Robin Hobb
Published by: Del Rey on 14th August 2014
Genre: Fantasy
Format: eARC
Source: Publisher
Check it out on Goodreads

*I received a copy of this book free from the publisher via Edelweiss for review consideration, this in no way affects my opinion of the book.*

Goodreads Synopsis: Nearly twenty years ago, Robin Hobb burst upon the fantasy scene with the first of her acclaimed Farseer novels, Assassin’s Apprentice, which introduced the characters of FitzChivalry Farseer and his uncanny friend the Fool. A watershed moment in modern fantasy, this novel—and those that followed—broke exciting new ground in a beloved genre. Together with George R. R. Martin, Robin Hobb helped pave the way for such talented new voices as Scott Lynch, Brandon Sanderson, and Naomi Novik.

Over the years, Hobb’s imagination has soared throughout the mythic lands of the Six Duchies in such bestselling series as the Liveship Traders Trilogy and the Rain Wilds Chronicles. But no matter how far she roamed, her heart always remained with Fitz. And now, at last, she has come home, with an astonishing new novel that opens a dark and gripping chapter in the Farseer saga.

FitzChivalry—royal bastard and former king’s assassin—has left his life of intrigue behind. As far as the rest of the world knows, FitzChivalry Farseer is dead and buried. Masquerading as Tom Badgerlock, Fitz is now married to his childhood sweetheart, Molly, and leading the quiet life of a country squire.

Though Fitz is haunted by the disappearance of the Fool, who did so much to shape Fitz into the man he has become, such private hurts are put aside in the business of daily life, at least until the appearance of menacing, pale-skinned strangers casts a sinister shadow over Fitz’s past . . . and his future.

Now, to protect his new life, the former assassin must once again take up his old one. . . .

My Thoughts: I may be bit biased in my love for this book, as The Farseer and Tawny Man trilogies are some of my most favourite and treasured books ever and I would happily read anything about Fitz and the Fool. This book is definitely for old fans like myself rather than newcomers - if you haven't read the previous mentioned trilogies yet, I highly suggest you do so before reading this.

Soon as I started reading, it felt like no time at all has passed since I last heard Fitz's voice, it really was like catching up with an old friend. The first time I met him he was just a boy finding his way in the world and he was a young man settling down with a family last time we met. Now he's not so young, but is quite content in his quiet family life. During the course of the book, Fitz's quiet life is turned upside down and Fitz dealing with this turmoil is mostly what the book is about.

The story is very character driven, there is not a lot of action and it mostly takes place in one location. And while not a lot actually happens, enough happens and there is enough questions that you want answered, to keep you reading. Simply spending time with these people is enough.

We are introduced to a new narrator during the course of the book and the story is told in alternating view points between Fitz and this new narrator during the second half of the book. I wasn't so certain about the new narrator at first, but after a few chapters of hearing form this new narrator, it felt natural and really added to the immersion and enjoyment of the story.

I only really have one complaint about this book and that is the fact that it took forever before the Fool showed up. But when he make an appearence, oh! the tears. He was definitely the same old fool, maybe a bit changed, but that happens with age and I was so glad to see him again.

This book is like coming home for old fans and is sure to be a beloved addition to the saga for new fans as well.

WHAT I PLAN TO READ NEXT:

After Kim I am moving on to

After Not a Drop to Drink I will start

I would also like to read the other two graphic novels I got this week - The Wicked and The Divine, and Judas.

IN REAL LIFE:

I didn't leave my house at all this week as I was sick, I don't quite know what was wrong with me, I just didn't feel well at all.

Being off sucked as I have already had time off this term already for being sick. I think my immune system is out to get me ;-)

One exciting thing did happen this week - Golden Son by Pierce Brown is up on Netgalley. It's not available for request yet, the publisher is just seeing how much interest there is for it, so if you loved Red Rising, pop on over to Netgalley and let them know you want to read the sequel. Fingers crossed I get approved for the galley because I really, really want it.

Have a fab week everyone.
